Contribution of women in any economy and development is immense. In order to enhance efficiency and potential of women, sate needs to create safe and secured environment for them. That has to be the prime agenda. Efficient security and effective patrolling measures in public places are necessary for prevention of crimes against women. Safe sanitation and transportation facilities are must. State has to make conscious efforts for making the society gender sensitive and for elimination of gender bias. State also needs to take effective measures for prevention of domestic violence.
Focus on the Girl Child
Too many little girls have lost their lives in the womb of their mothers. Stringent legal actions and awareness campaigns have to be undertaken to eradicate this practice. Women foeticide is a blot on the face of progressive Maharashtra and state should take utmost efforts to wash off it. Educating the girl child must be a priority over all else. Along with free schooling availability of schools in neighbourhood, safe transportation, clean and safe toilets in schools, scholarships and allowances are all must for retaining the girls in the stream of education.
Poverty – early dropping out at school – early marriage – early motherhood – malnourishment – unemployment…. it has become a vicious cycle of the life of majority of women. Government has to make spirited efforts for breaking this cycle and empowering women. Women spending hours everyday for fetching drinking water is a criminal waste of their productive time and energy. It is important to encourage participation of women in every sector, to create special employment opportunities for them and to ensure that they are equally remunerated as their male counterparts.
